Gate.io review 2026

8.3/10Most coins
Updated: April 2026

TL;DR

Gate.io (rebranded to Gate.com in May 2025) has the largest cryptocurrency catalog of any exchange: 4,500+ coins. If a token exists, there's a good chance it already trades here. The platform has been running since 2013, launched its own L2 Gate Layer in September 2025 with the no-code token launcher Gate Fun, and introduced Gate for AI in March 2026 – an API interface built for AI agents. Proof of Reserves sits at 122%.

What is Gate.io

Gate.io is one of the oldest crypto exchanges, founded in 2013 and registered in the Cayman Islands. In May 2025, the platform rebranded and moved to gate.com, keeping Gate.io as the recognizable brand name. The catalog now covers more than 4,500 cryptocurrencies, making it the clear leader by coin count. In 2025–2026 the exchange launched several new products: Gate Layer – its own Layer 2 built on OP Stack with GT as the gas token; Gate Fun – a no-code platform for launching tokens; Gate US – a separate regulated entity covering 30 US states; Gate Dubai with a full VARA license. In March 2026 the team introduced Gate for AI – a unified API interface that lets AI agents interact with the exchange, on-chain data, and news feeds. Nothing like it exists at competing exchanges yet. The rest of the product lineup is standard for a CEX: spot, futures, the Startup launchpad for early token access, staking, and margin lending. The interface is available in multiple languages, with apps for iOS and Android.

  • +Gate for AI – the only exchange-native API interface for AI agents (March 2026)

Cons

Trading features

Spot trading with 4,500+ coins – the absolute record among crypto exchanges. According to Gate's own data, in Q1 2026 the exchange added 37 new assets, 27 of them listed on the market for the first time – that's 77% of all new listings across top-tier exchanges. If a token exists and trades somewhere, there's a strong chance it's on Gate. USDT-M futures with up to 100x leverage on major pairs. Margin trading with cross and isolated margin. Fees: 0.1%/0.1% on spot, 0.02%/0.05% on futures – market standard. GT reduces fees. One thing futures traders should know: funding is charged every 4 hours instead of the standard 8, which doubles the cost of holding a position compared to Binance or Bybit.

Deposits and withdrawals

Crypto deposits are free. All major networks are supported, plus many niche ones: TRC-20, ERC-20, BEP-20, Solana, Arbitrum, Polygon, TON, Gate Layer, and more. Card purchases go through third-party providers at a 2–4% fee. Minimum deposit depends on the coin. Withdrawals: BTC – 0.0004 BTC (slightly cheaper than Binance), ETH – 0.005 ETH, USDT – 1 USDT via TRC-20 / 4 USDT via ERC-20. Processing speed ranges from 10 minutes to an hour.

P2P and buying with fiat

P2P exchange is available but less developed than Bybit. The selection of listings is limited, liquidity is moderate. Works fine for smaller amounts; for larger purchases consider Bybit or Bitget. The regulatory landscape shifts quickly – before any significant transaction, check the current status for your jurisdiction at gate.com/help.

Security

Gate uses cold storage with multi-signature, 2FA, anti-phishing codes, and address whitelisting. The standout feature is its transparent Proof of Reserves: the exchange publishes monthly reports showing a reserve ratio of 122% (147% on BTC). The methodology covers Merkle tree proofs and zero-knowledge verification, all audited by Hacken across roughly 500 asset types. In 12 years of operation the platform has not suffered any major hacks, though there have been occasional technical outages and individual withdrawal disputes.

Verification (KYC)

KYC verification is mandatory for trading and withdrawals. Basic level: passport plus selfie. Processing takes from 10 minutes to a few hours. US-based users go through a separate Gate US flow with state-specific licensing.

Passive income

Gate Earn offers flexible and fixed staking with APY from 1% to 25% on select coins. Startup is the launchpad for early participation in token launches – you need to hold GT on your balance. Gate Fun adds no-code token launches directly from your phone, built on top of Gate Layer. HODL & Earn offers structured products with fixed yields. Margin lending lets you lend coins for interest. The Earn product range is wide, especially on niche coins – rates are higher there, but so are the risks.

Copy trading and bots

Copy trading on Gate exists but is underdeveloped compared to Bitget or Bybit. Available on futures – pick a trader from the leaderboard and set your copy parameters. The trader selection is modest and the statistics are less detailed. Grid, DCA, and arbitrage bots are also available. If copy trading is your main focus, Gate isn't the best option. The exchange's strengths are its coin catalog and infrastructure (Gate Layer, Gate for AI) – not social trading.

Mobile app

The Gate app is functional but the interface is cluttered – lots of buttons and sections, navigation takes some getting used to. App Store rating: 4.3/5 (5,200+ reviews), Google Play: around 4.4/5. All core features are there: spot, futures, staking, Startup, Gate Fun. Multiple languages supported. Push notifications work. Biometric login available. Less polished than Bybit or Bitget, but once you get your bearings, it offers more features than any other exchange app.

Customer support

Support via website chat – bot first, then a live agent. Wait time for a live agent runs from 15 minutes to several hours; on busy days it stretches longer. The knowledge base is solid but not as thorough as Binance or Bybit. Email support works but replies can take up to 48 hours. In our experience, routine questions get resolved through chat, while complex issues tend to move slowly.

Best for

Gate.io is the right pick for traders who want the widest possible coin catalog and early exposure to new projects. If a token isn't trading anywhere else – check Gate first. In 2025–2026 the exchange has evolved from a classic CEX into an ecosystem with its own L2 (Gate Layer), a token launcher (Gate Fun), and infrastructure for AI agents (Gate for AI). If you're interested in the intersection of crypto and automation, or you want to catch new listings before everyone else, Gate is a better fit than any competitor.

vs Competitors

Gate.io vs MEXC: both exchanges compete for the 'most coins' title. Gate leads (4,500+ vs 2,900+), but MEXC offers zero maker fees and a more convenient P2P setup. For maximum coin selection – Gate; for lower fees – MEXC. Gate.io vs KuCoin: Gate wins on coin catalog and infrastructure (L2, Gate for AI); KuCoin wins on liquidity and interface usability. The KCS token with dividends is more interesting than GT, though GT works as a gas token inside Gate Layer. Gate.io vs Bitget: Bitget is stronger on copy trading and liquidity; Gate leads on coin count, early listings, and its own L2. For trading rare tokens and working with AI agents – Gate; for copy trading – Bitget.
