Binance Pool winds down operations as computing power drops 65 percent

We have learned that Binance Pool is shutting down its operations following a significant decline in its network contribution. The mining pool, which once handled roughly 2.3 percent of the total Bitcoin network hashrate, will completely cease operations by November 10. Remaining participants must transition their equipment to alternative providers ahead of this definitive cutoff date to avoid mining disruptions.

This closure follows a steep drop in computing power directed at the pool over the past year. Data indicates that the hashrate supplied to Binance Pool fell from a peak of 26 exahashes per second in December down to approximately 9 exahashes per second. Such a contraction highlights the volatile nature of the mining sector, where pools face constant pressure from hardware efficiency updates and fluctuating electricity costs.

For the broader cryptocurrency market, this event underscores the ongoing consolidation among Bitcoin mining infrastructure. While the loss of a 2.3 percent share is unlikely to disrupt overall network security or transaction processing times, it reflects the thin margins and fierce competition that smaller or secondary mining pools navigate daily as difficulty adjustments continue.

Industry observers have pointed out that the departure of Binance Pool demonstrates the challenges of maintaining competitive scale in an increasingly industrialised mining environment. Major operators continue to command the majority of the hashrate, leaving less room for diversified platforms that cannot sustain top-tier efficiency levels during market downturns.

As the November 10 deadline approaches, attention will shift toward where the remaining miners choose to relocate their operations. The absorption of these displaced exahashes by competing mining pools will test the capacity and distribution of the existing network infrastructure without posing any systemic risk to the blockchain.
